Music workshops - Tuesday 9th April, Bird Gardens Scotland, Oxton

Social musician Hugh Nankivell and Oxton resident Cormac Thomas will lead two sessions of instant songwriting workshops.

These workshops are suitable for everyone, all ages, whether you are a confident musician or consider yourself to have no musical skills at all.

No need to book, just come along.

11.00-12.30pm 90 min songwriting workshop - This workshop will take you through a fun 90 minute process from inspiration to instant song, inspired by the birds in the Bird Garden.

2.00-4.00pm Drop-in session - Come along at any point between 2pm and 4pm. There’ll be a rolling songwriting process going on - stay as little or as long as you like.

For directions and information about the venue - https://www.birdgardensscotland.com Workshop participants do not have to pay to come into the Visitor Centre for the workshops or to use the cafe. Well-behaved dogs are allowed in the cafe but not in the Bird Garden grounds.

We can't supervise your children, parents and carers need to stay too. And preferably join in!

Live concert - CORKIVELL at the Tower, Oxton - 10th April 7pm

This is a live concert of original material by Corkivell, a variety of bird-related songs, some of the songs which have been created at the workshops at the Bird Garden, and some new musical improvisations and experiments.

The bar will be open for teas and coffees - thank you, Mavis!

About Hugh and Cormac

Hugh Nankivell is one of the UK’s most respected social and community musicians. He is at the forefront of intergenerational practice, bringing the very young into care homes to make music together with elders, working with family orchestras and in hospitals, using music as both a therapeutic tool and for happiness. He is Music Associate with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and has composed large-scale professional/community pieces for organisations including Opera North, Dartmoor National Park, UNESCO, National Theatre of Scotland and several large-scale commissions in Japan. Hugh plays with the geographically awkward band Natural Causes and the Devon based Trio Of Men.

Cormac Thomas is a young musician and Oxton resident. He has led instant songwriting workshops with festival-goers at End of the Road Festival with Hugh and a variety of other musicians for the past 3 years.

Together Hugh and Cormac are CORKIVELL. They have been making songs and musical experiments together for a decade.
